Overview
Sine Language is a precision audio test-tone and noise generator.
Use it to generate sine tones, multiple noise colors, binaural beats, and logarithmic sine sweeps.
Tip: Start with low volume and increase gradually.
Quick Start
- Choose a mode from the Mode menu (Sine / Noise colors / Binaural).
- Set frequency (Sine) with the horizontal fader.
- Press the Power button to start/stop audio.
- Use the Left/Right faders to set output level. Double-click a fader to copy levels.
Sine Mode (Free + ISO)
- Free: Set any frequency from 20 Hz to 20 kHz using the frequency fader.
- ISO: Select an ISO 1/3‑octave band center; the frequency fader locks while ISO is enabled.
- Power behavior: ISO tones can start immediately for quick checks.
Noise Modes
Noise modes available:
- White Noise: Equal energy at all frequencies — ideal for masking distractions
- Pink Noise: Natural, balanced sound (−3 dB per octave) — perfect for sleep and relaxation
- Brown Noise: Deep, rumbling bass (−6 dB per octave) — excellent for blocking low-frequency noise
- Blue Noise: Bright, crisp character (+3 dB per octave) — emphasizes higher frequencies
- Violet Noise: Strong high-frequency emphasis (+6 dB per octave) — very bright character
- Gray Noise: Perceptually equal loudness (ISO 226:2003) — all frequencies sound equally loud
- Green Noise: Mid-range focused (−1.5 dB per octave) — balanced between pink and white
- Orange Noise: Anti-harmonic structure — less tonal, less resonant sound
- Brown-Pink Hybrid: Median slope (−4.5 dB per octave) — combines characteristics of both
Stereo/Mono: Some modes allow mono output; when mono is enabled, both channels share the same signal.
Use Left/Right faders to adjust level.
Binaural Beats
- Select a preset (beat frequency) and choose a carrier frequency.
- Optional: Add a Pink or Brown noise layer and adjust the noise mix level.
- Headphones are required to perceive the binaural beat effect correctly.
- In Binaural mode, the app keeps channels linked for correct left/right pairing.
Levels, Stereo, and Calibration
- Left/Right: Adjust each channel’s level independently when stereo is enabled.
- Link: When enabled, moving one fader mirrors the other.
- Mono: When enabled (supported modes), right mirrors left.
- Reference: “−12 dBFS” sets a convenient calibration level.
Sine Sweep
- Open the Sweep tab.
- Enter Start (Hz), End (Hz), and Duration (sec) using the keypad.
- Tap Go to run a logarithmic sweep. Tap Abort to stop.
Tips & Safety
- Protect your hearing: begin at low volume and increase slowly.
- Very low frequencies and some noise types can feel louder than expected — use caution.
- Take breaks during long headphone sessions.
Tech Specs
- Audio output: 2‑channel (stereo).
- Main generator engine: CoreAudio Default Output AudioUnit with a real‑time render callback.
- Main generator format: 32‑bit float PCM, non‑interleaved, 44.1 kHz sample rate.
- Sweep engine: AVAudioEngine + AVAudioSourceNode; uses the device output sample rate; applies a 3 ms fade‑in/out envelope.
- Sine frequency range: 20 Hz – 20 kHz.
- Binaural beat frequency range: 0.5 Hz – 40 Hz.
- Binaural carrier frequency range: 200 Hz – 1000 Hz.
- Noise mix baseline: 30% noise (adjustable via ±2 dB steps, clamped to 0–100%).
- Power fades (main generator): 2.0 s fade‑in, 1.0 s fade‑out; mode changes crossfade at ~0.25 s.
